Ballast is a general term used for aggregates and several variations – All-in ballast refers to a mixture of gravel and/or small stone (<40mm) with sand for making concrete. Track ballast is coarse granular stones (40-50mm) used to support railway lines. General fill ballast is made of crushed rock, slag or gravel.
